Kelly Preston is an American actress and model. She is married to actor, producer, dancer, and singer John Travolta. The couple has had three children.
Her father, whose surname was Smith, worked for an agricultural firm, and drowned when Kelly was three years old. Her mother, Linda (Reynolds) Carlson, was an administrator of a mental health center. She married her second husband, Peter Lynn Palzis, who subsequently adopted Kelly.
Kelly’s maternal grandfather was Howard Clark Reynolds (the son of Horace Henry Reynolds, Jr. and Lula Bernice Clark). Howard was born in Iowa. Horace was the son of Horace Henry Reynolds and Malenda Gallaher Frazier. Lula was the daughter of William Henry Clark and Sarah Jane “Jennie” Cruikshank, who was of Scottish descent.
Kelly’s maternal grandmother was Lucille K. Ackerman (the daughter of Walter Douglas Ackerman and Lucy Woods). Lucille was born in Hawaii. Walter was the son of John Douglas Ackerman and Mary Jane Yates, whose own parents, John Peel Yates and Mary Ann Hand, were emigrants, from Liverpool, England and County Monaghan, Ireland, respectively. Lucy was the daughter of an English emigrant, James Woods, of Liverpool, and of Mary Ann Kaulalani Parker, who was of three quarters Native Hawaiian descent.
Kelly’s matrilineal ancestry can be traced back to her third great-grandmother, Kilia Nahulanui, a Native Hawaiian, who died at sea between Hawaii and Maui islands on February 16, 1861.
