Katrín Jakobsdóttir is an Icelandic politician. She has served as the 28th Prime Minister of Iceland, since 30 November, 2017. She has been the Chair of the Left-Green Movement, since 24 February, 2013. She was previously Minister of Education, Science and Culture, from 2 February, 2009 to 23 May, 2013.

She is the daughter of Jakob Ármannsson and Signý Thoroddsen. Her father’s last name is a patronymic, while her mother’s last name is a family name. Her brothers, Ármann Jakobsson and Sverrir Jakobsson, are professors in the humanities at the University of Iceland.

She is married to Gunnar Örn Sigvaldason, with whom she has three children.

Her uncle is poet Dagur Sigurðarson.

Prime Minister Katrín’s patrilineal ancestry can be traced back to her fourth great-grandfather, Jón Bjarnason (c. 1778, Eyrar – between 1850 and 1855).

Prime Minister Katrín’s paternal grandfather was Ármann Jakobsson (the son of Jakob Guðjón Bjarnason and Guðrún Sesselja Ármannsdóttir). Ármann was born in Reykjavík. Prime Minister Katrín’s great-grandfather Jakob was the son of Bjarni Bjarnason and Hildur Þorláksdóttir. Guðrún was the daughter of Ármann Jónsson and Katrín Sveinsdóttir.

Prime Minister Katrín’s paternal grandmother was Hildur Sigríður Svavarsdóttir (the daughter of Svavar Sigurbjarnarsson Svavars and Jóna Bjarnadóttir). Hildur was born in Reykjavík. Svavar was the son of Sigurbjörn Jónsson and Guðrún Jónatansdóttir. Jóna was the daughter of Bjarni Siggeirsson and Jensína Hildur Jónsdóttir.

Prime Minister Katrín’s maternal grandfather was Sigurður Skúlason Thoroddsen (the son of Skúli Thoroddsen and Theódóra Friðrika Guðmundsdóttir). Sigurður was born in Bessastaðir in Álftanes, and was a member of the Althing. He was an engineer. Skúli was a politician and judge, and was the son of poet Jón Thoroddsen and Kristín Ólína Þorvaldsdóttir Sivertsen. Theódóra was a poet, and was the daughter of Guðmundur Einarsson and Katrín Ólafsdóttir.

Prime Minister Katrín’s maternal grandmother was Jakobína Margrét “Bína” Tulinius (the daughter of Ottó Friðrik Tulinius and Valgerður Ólafía Möller). Ottó was the son of Danish merchant Carl Daniel Gottlieb Tulinius, of Pellworm (now part of Schleswig-Holstein, Germany), and of Guðrún Þórarinsdóttir. Valgerður was the daughter of Friðrik Pétur Möller and Ragnheiður Jónsdóttir.

Prime Minister Katrín’s matrilineal ancestry can be traced back to her third great-grandmother, Sigríður Finnsdóttir (c. 1800, Höskuldsstaðir – after 1855).
