José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero is a Spanish politician. A member of the Spanish Socialist Workers’ Party, he served as Prime Minister of Spain, from 17 April, 2004 to 21 December, 2011. He was Secretary-General of the Spanish Socialist Workers’ Party, from 22 July, 2000 to 4 February, 2012, and Leader of the Opposition, from 22 July, 2000 to 16 April, 2004.

Prime Minister Rodriguez Zapatero is the son of Juan Rodríguez y García-Lozano and María de la Purificación Zapatero y Valero. He is married to singer and music teacher Sonsoles Espinosa Díaz, with whom he has two children.

An Israeli journalist stated that the Zapatero family has Jewish ancestry, probably from a family of Marranos. It is not clear if this is accurate.

Prime Minister Rodriguez Zapatero’s paternal grandfather was Juan Claudio Rodríguez y Lozano (the son of Camilo Sebastián Rodríguez Gil and Ángela Marcelina Lozano García). Juan was born in Alange, Badajoz, Extremadura. Sebastián was the son of Antonio Rodríguez Gil and Antonia Camila de los Inocentes Gil y Benítez Milanés. Marcelina and was the daughter of Juan María Lozano García and Casimira García.

Prime Minister Rodriguez Zapatero’s paternal grandmother was named Josefina García y García (the daughter of parents surnamed García and García).

Prime Minister Rodriguez Zapatero’s maternal grandfather was Faustino Valentín Zapatero Ballesteros (the son of Emilio Zapatero González and Elisa Ballesteros Suárez). Faustino was born in Valladolid, Valladolid, Castile and León. Emilio was the son of Agapito Zapatero García and Fausta González de Prado. Elisa was the daughter of Valentín Ballesteros and Rosa Suárez. Fausta’s maternal great-great-grandmother, Bonifacia de San Antolín, who was born in Palencia, Palencia, was a foundling. She was sent into an orphanage, and took the family name de San Antolín.

Prime Minister Rodriguez Zapatero’s maternal grandmother was named María de la Natividad Valero y Asensio (the daughter of parents surnamed Valero and Asensio). María was born in Zamora, Zamora, Castile and León.

    I found Bonifacia de San Antolín’s original marriage record. She was not born in 1733 in Valladolid. Rather, she was from Palencia, Palencia with her birth year still uncertain.
