Jon Gosselin is an American television personality. He starred in the reality television series Jon & Kate Plus 8, alongside his then-wife, Kate Gosselin, and their eight children.

Jon’s father’s ancestry is French-Canadian, Irish, and Welsh. Jon’s mother was born and raised in Hawaii, of Korean descent. This was stated in the Korean American Journal.

Jon and Kate’s children have also inherited Jon’s Korean looks. When asked to comment about this, Jon’s mother stated that the “Korean gene is very strong.” Kate said that she wanted her kids to look like Jon and that she always wanted little “China dolls.”

Jon’s paternal grandfather was Joseph Gosselin (the son of Frank Louis Gosselin and Kathleen/Catherine Lang/Long). Joseph was born in Massachusetts, and was of French-Canadian descent. Louis was born on Prince Edward Island. Kathleen was born in Madawaska, New Brunswick, the daughter of François-Xavier Long and Adèle Ouellette.

Jon’s paternal grandmother was named Elizabeth Thomas.

Jon’s father distant ancestor, Françoise Grenier/Garnier, may have been an Indigenous Canadian.

Curious about ethnicity

It’s just human curiosity and I am glad this website exists. Thank you.

I agree with Anana, I’ve been so curious too (and shame on me too) on Jon’s ethiniticy and wasn’t aware since I don’t watch the show — just the gossip about the family on the news and/or net (especially living in eastern PA). I don’t judge people (or try not to) on race/ethniticity in a negative, but it does intrigue me, especially when someone has a unique and exotic look. I, too, have a beautiful bi-racial angel (puerto rican/german) who is 13 and proud of her heritiage. I used to think like Anana, that I wanted everyone to be tan or mixed or whatever so everyone could just get along — but really if everyone was alike that would be soooo boring! Although, I do still wish that everyone could just get along!! I love all ethnicities as long as they are nice people!

Paula, thanks for the kind words about the site. Ive been making this site for a while now I love finding out people’s background. However I dont really see the African American in Jon.

Anana, Its good to hear you have a wonderful biracial child. I agree that race shouldnt be an important factor when dealing with people but I think we should be aware of our heritage as i makes us look the way we look and to a lesser extent act the way we act. I think if we were to forget about our ethnic background we would forget the rich history of our ancestors.

I was so curious; shame on me. I try to keep race and ethnicity out of my daily world, but I just had to know. What an interesting combo – can’t wait until we’re all “mixed” … beige.

Oh, the power of the Internet! I had never heard of Jon and Kate until I started hearing all the tabloid stuff. Then I started following (well, kind of) their developing story and the plus 8. Jon obviously has strong genes as they kids look like him (but Kate sort of favors him, too). I wondered what his ethnicity was. Thank goodness for your website as I was able to Google and find the answer right away! I actually thought he had some African-American blood, as well. Thanks again!
