Birth Name: John Christopher Depp II
Birth Place: Owensboro, Kentucky, USA
Date of Birth: June 9, 1963
Ethnicity: German, English, Irish, French, African and Cherokee
Depp is the star of the films, Pirates of the Caribbean, Public Enemies and Edward Scissor Hands. In an interview he stated that his great grandmother has a lot of Cherokee heritage. (3)
From an interview in 2002 he stated that he was a mixture of German, Irish and Cherokee among other things.(2) There are some rumors on the internet that Depp also has Lebanese heritage, though this is not confirmed.
Some of Depp’s biographies state that his family name Depp is of French origin, derived from the names Pierre Deppe or Dieppe. He jokingly says that his surname means “idiot” in German.
The link below (1) shows a family tree on Depp’s father’s side that leads right up to his grandfather Oren Laramore Depp. If you go back 9 generations on this family tree it will lead to a woman named Martha, born in 1612, who was a woman of African descent.
An interesting piece of trivia is that Martha’s daughter, Elizabeth Key was the first woman of African ancestry to successfully take legal action to free herself from slavery. This happened in 1656. (4)

Through your comments, i ‘ve always got the felling that you have some issues with black people, even if you’re mixed. I think i understand why now : you never met your african family, and you never had been to your dad’s country.
you told me why, and i understand yoiur reasons. But you dad never told you about his country ??
Anyway, not all black people want to make everybody black like them,i’m black and i don’t think that we could consider johnny depp as black, he ‘s far more white than black anyway.

You seem to generalize a lot about black people, without knowing at least one black person, it’s ridiculous !!

To: thetruth. Either u just plain stupid or ignorant…either way???? Plz do us all a favour and do a bit of research before you make really stupid comments like that…where the hell did you get that stupid thing about Black blood cancelling everything else you are? which books do you read? I mean really…then why do you think that we have terms such as mixed? I get the feeling that you live somewhere on mars and have never actually being exposed to people in your life…coz if you have…you would knw that a mixed person does’nt look just black…if their white genes were cancelled they would just look black…but instead…u nitwit! They look like both white and black. OBVIOUSLY nothing is cancelled coz if it was they would just look black…you obviously didnt bother to attend your biology classes! Do you not know that we inherit our genes from our parents…nothing gets cancelled out even if one of your parents are not the same race. GENES DO NOT GET CANCALLED OUT! FOOL!

You seem to be misinformed, the only that has been said is he has some black lineage;that’s it. It’s you guys who seem to be all upset about it.If you talk about all the other things you are,why hide some, because that part also makes you what you are. I also notice you left out the black part to,so who’s the more prejudice one?

sorry but black genes are NOT more dominant then white or european genes and people who have stated the one drop rule are just showing they are more dominant at being racist, caucasian-hating ignorant and deplorable people who think that god forbid someone have white blood in them and if they do ‘the black blood cancels it out’
hello talk to a geneticist and i’m sure they would laugh in your fucking face
johnny depp is smart, talented and has very native american features as well as german
so please black people let go of of your white-hating slave mentality because it makes you REALLY ugly and proves YOU ARE THE MORE PREJUDICED RACE!!

To Lauren,
I talking about british, and the french. Also even if you don’t consider Spainards, Portugese, or Italians white over here, they do.
Also despite what you seem to believe,This black person doesn’t want everyone to be black,it is what it is.Now if people have black lineage, what wrong with talking about it?Now just because these people have black DNA,doesn’t mean they have to go jump off a bridge
Here’s what funny, you say (Cassie and Christina millian) aren’t black;yet you call me black and I’m as mixed as either one of them.
