John Key is a New Zealand politician. He was Prime Minister of New Zealand, from 19 November, 2008 to 12 December, 2016. He has also been a Member of the New Zealand Parliament for Helensville, since 27 July, 2002, and Chairman of the International Democrat Union, since 21 November, 2014. He was Leader of the Opposition, from 27 November, 2006 to 8 November, 2008, and Leader of the National Party, from 27 November, 2006 to 12 December, 2016.

Prime Minister Key is the son of Ruth and George Ernest Key. His father was English, born in Coventry, England. His mother was Jewish, born in Vienna, Austria.

Prime Minister Key’s paternal grandfather was George Ernest Key (the son of Jesse Key and Mary Ann Welch). Jesse was born in Tingewick, England, the son of Joseph Key and Mary Hawkin or Makepeace. Prime Minister Key’s great-grandmother Mary Ann was born in Birmingham, England, the daughter of John Welch and Ann Starkey.
