John Connally was an American politician. As a member of the Democratic Party, he served as a U.S. Secretary of the Navy, from January 25, 1961 to December 20, 1961, Governor of Texas, from January 15, 1963 to January 21, 1969, and U.S. Secretary of the Treasury, from February 11, 1971 to June 12, 1972. He switched to the Republican Part in 1973.

He was a candidate for the Republican Party’s nomination for President of the United States in 1980.

He was in the car with President John F. Kennedy during Kennedy’s assassination, and was seriously wounded.

John was the son of Lela (Wright) and John Bowden Connally. He was married to Nellie (Brill) Connally, with whom he had four children.

John’s paternal grandfather was John Wesley Connally (the son of Charles Price Connally and Rebecca Smith). John’s grandfather John was born in Texas. Charles was the son of Charles Connally and Nancy E. Stokes.

John’s paternal grandmother was Louise/Louisa Wardell Duke (the daughter of Charles Green Berry Duke and Louisa/Lou P. Bowden). John’s grandmother Louise was born in Georgia. Charles was the son of Shadrack Duke and Dicey Roberts.

John’s maternal grandfather was named William A. Wright. William was born in Texas.

John’s maternal grandmother was M. Janie/Jane Haddox (the daughter of Campbell Haddox and Elizabeth Betty Parker). M. Janie was born in Texas. Campbell was the son of William Haddox and Nancy Ann Vineyard.
