She was the daughter of Erna Louise (Borgens) and Harold Kenneth “Harry” Cameron, who ran a drive-in restaurant. Her father was of English, Welsh, and Scottish descent. Her mother was born in Colorado, to ethnic German emigrants, from Russia.
