The Germans look darker than the Irish – I mean, if they look dark, they are dark!: Witness Joachim Low, German soccer boss

You mean the eye shape or the colour?

Yes, their shape are a bit “Asiatic”, think Native American or Asian-Russian.

Dark eyes are not unheard of among Germans and especially the Irish (who have darker folks).

“Dark eyes are not unheard of among Germans and especially the Irish (who have darker folks).”

Where do you get that information from Capricious? There are dark eyed and haired people in both countries but the Irish don’t have darker complected people than the Germans. Also there is a higher percentage of blue eyes in the Irish than the Germans. I think people just rely too much on stereotypes without at least trying to check for some information on the subject.

I know it comes across as a bit pendantic but your statement is inaccurate. I know some of these maps are a bit dubious but it gives an idea.

Funny chart! – the Welsh have more blue eyes than the English.

English might have 30% blue eyes, tops. Scots not much more.

        • Alice says:

Scots are similar to the Irish and the English have slightly more brown eyes but Britain and Ireland are both majority blue eyed.

        • gel says:

Alice, you make these statements, but its not my experience. What makes you say the English are majority blue-eyed?

        • Alice says:

I’ve seen loads of English and have been there. There is also studies done. I’m especially aware of genetic studies and read a lot of info on the subject. A bit OT but I’ve had 3 dna tests done on myself and also have had 3 family members done. This is why some of the things said here & elsewhere about British and Irish people is very inaccurate.

I gather you are Irish Gel? You do know that the English are very similar to the Irish genetically? In fact all of northern Europeans are close genetically. Anyway I don’t want to get too OT but some of your comments give that impression.

Just waiting now to come on about how the English are Anglo-Saxons and how Germanic populations are. “rolls eyes”.

He must have some Amerindian or Asian genes.

p.s. this site is confusing as hell, that’s with the percentage, you do realise that most Irish also have Norway ancestors from way back in Viking times. You are over simplifying things with the percentages.
