Harvey Milk was an American politician. He was the first openly gay elected official in the history of California, as a Member of the San Francisco Board of Supervisors from District 5, from January 8, 1978 to November 27, 1978, when he was assassinated.
Harvey was the son of Minerva (Karns) and William Milk, who were Lithuanian Jewish immigrants.
Harvey’s paternal grandparents were Morris Milch/Milk and Hilda Milk.
