Goh Chok Tong is a Singaporean politician. He served as the second Prime Minister of Singapore, from 28 November, 1990 to 12 August, 2004. He was also Minister for Defence, from 1 June, 1982 to 30 June, 1991, Secretary-General of the People’s Action Party, from 15 November, 1992 to 3 December, 2004, and Senior Minister of Singapore, from 12 August, 2004 to 21 May, 2011, among other duties.

His father, Gok Kah Choon, was a Chinese emigrant, from Yongchun County, Fujian. His mother was named Quah Kwee Hwa. He is married to lawyer Tan Choo Leng, with whom he has two children.
