George Reid was an Australian politician. He served as Prime Minister of Australia, from 18 August, 1904 to 5 July, 1905. He was also Premier of New South Wales, from 3 August, 1894 to 13 September, 1899, Federal leader of the Free Trade/Anti-Socialist Party, from 1 January, 1901 to 16 November, 1908, Leader of the Opposition, from 19 May, 1901 to 17 August, 1904, and again from 7 July, 1905 to 16 November, 1908, Minister for External Affairs, from 18 August, 1904 to 5 July, 1905, and Australian High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, from 1 January, 1910 to 1 January, 1916, among other duties.

Prime Minister Reid was the son of Marion (Crybbace) and John Reid, a Presbyterian Minister. His father was born in Dundee, Angus, Scotland. His mother was born in Lasswade, Midlothian, Scotland.

Prime Minister Reid’s paternal grandfather was John Reid (the son of William Reid and Margaret Gray). William was the son of John Reid and Agnes Gairden. Margaret was the daughter of James Gray and Helen Ramsay.

Prime Minister Reid’s paternal grandmother was Elisabeth Ogilvie (the daughter of John Ogilvie and Margaret Hackney). John was the son of David Ogilvie and Isabel McInnes. Margaret was the daughter of Alexander Hackney and Hellen Kydd.

Prime Minister Reid’s maternal grandparents were James Crybbace (the son of James Cribbes and Marion Dick) and Marion Tully. Prime Minister Reid’s great-grandfather James was the son of John Cribbes.
