Europeans are commonly accepted as white, so the Spanish and Italian is considered white. But they are both considered Latino as well.

ok guys the fact is of course census is self identifying and puerto rico is deffinately not overwhelmingly majority white, but the european contribution to culture and ethnic make up is the strongest of the elements in puerto ricos racial make up. puerto rico was the longest controlled spanish colony it recieved tons of european refugees from haiti,dominican republic,louissiana,and south america. it also recieved most of the jewish refugees from cuba after fidel took over and experienced a long time period of whitening when spain granted land to non iberian europeans
living in puerto rico you will see a large spectrum of features and phenotypes in one family but you will notice that a great chunk of those features are european and that your looking at off white people quadroons,castizos,triracials,mulattos make up least 60 to 70% of the population and can be found all around the island
the pure white population does exist and is not primarily the wealthy people tho they do make up that group there are tons of poor white ricans they make up large population in the big cities of san juan and ponce but also usually form majority groups in the southern half of the island where most european immigrants settled(where my paternal family is from) making up id say 1/4 of the prican population or 20-30%
pure blacks make up a small minority and are found in the north eastern part of the island where my grandfather is originally from making up about 5 -10%
if you get like o.c.d specific and broke down all the racial grroups and mixes to the T you will notice all the groups are very close in number to each other and there is no extreme majority

To let everyone know..yes i am puerto rican, speak fluent spanish but i look “black” with straight hair, green eyes, but my sister is light, brown eyes, nearly wool hair. We do have the same parents and my ancestry dates back to africa from my father’s side. He is dark skinned which explains my color. my mom is bright like she is white but she as well has african ancestry. Our african culture is strong and i love both. People just know that we Puerto Ricans do have african or native culture. Dont fight. Love it.

You are so wrong! The majority of puerto ricans are white! I lived in the island for thirty years and, yes, there is a mixture but its very low. The island has been populated lately by dominicans. Thats why puerto ricans are moving to continental usa now. We had to move here because jobs were given to them for pennies an hour while we looked for jobs and couldnt find any.

Dont ever believe Latin American Census’s…They always downplay their percent of Black and Mixed race population vs the White one. As far as Puerto Rico goes, having been there myself a few times I can tell you that PR is in no way, shape or form majority white.
The claim that 80% of PR is white is a nice lie, they come to that conclusion since the census asks your race and most people checkmark the white box. But having been there its really the reverse. The majority are mixed race, you cant even tell what they are most times. Sometimes a family will have a brown skinned kid with straight hair and the other kid has a afro, and the 3rd a afro with blue eyes.
But there are blacks and whites in PR, black people seem slightly more numerous than whites…But that could have been some of the areas I was in. In the downtown district, most of the poor people begging for money are black and they are very numerous. Those black PR’s look just like black Americans. The White PR’s seem to be mostly well off, I saw no white PRs begging for money. And most of the Police/City management/People who run the show were white [white as in - looks just like a White american, not white as in - hey i look mixed but I checkmarked the white box].

Puerto Ricans do have have African blood. Your getting it straight from the horses mouth as I have lots of African blood and do not pretend like I do not unlike others. Don’t believe me? Look up Tego Calderon. He is a black Puerto Rican with an afro who has been quite outspoken about the treatment of blacks in latin culture.
