He was born in Monza, Italy, the son of journalist Franca Sozzani, who was editor-in-chief of Vogue Italia, and Francesco Carrozzini. He grew up in Milan, Italy. His aunt (mother’s sister) is gallerist Carla Sozzani. Francesco is married to Bee Shaffer. Bee is the daughter of Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour.

Francesco’s maternal grandfather was named Gilberto Sozzani.
