Florence Welch is an English singer, songwriter, and musician. She is the lead singer of the band Florence and the Machine.

Florence’s patrilineal ancestry can be traced back to her sixth great-grandfather, Matthew Welch.

Florence’s paternal grandfather was political journalist Colin Welch (James Colin Ross Welch, the son of James William Welch and Irene Margherita Paton). Colin was born in Linton, Cambridgeshire. Florence’s great-grandfather James was the son of James Welch and Sarah Dandy. Irene was the daughter of Frederick Paton and Ada Sarah Kinipple.

Florence’s maternal grandmother was Ellen Kathleen Richards (the daughter of John Samuel Richards and Leontine Marie Subatch). Change to: English, Scottish, Irish, 1/16th Ashkenazi Jewish, 1/16th Lithuanian

Sometimes I don’t understand the standards for evidence on this site. When it comes to, for example, Jewish ancestors, the bar is (rightfully) very high, it appears. But here, a correction about Native American ancestry was made, something that has to be seen as important to get right, since people are often hyped about that no matter how distant it is. The genealogical source cited was the familysearch-genealogy, which we know has countless of errors and unfounded claims on the more distant ancestors. No additional specific information, no other genealogies. Yet, it is added instantly without any background check. In the future, I ask the moderators to be more careful with what they add if there is no sources that confirms it, or look into it themselves before adding it to the text.

The other ancestries by the way, if correct, are too remote to mention.

His father’s full name is James Nicholas “Nick” Russell Welch.

Florence’s patrilineal ancestry can be traced back to her sixth great-grandfather, Matthew Welch.

Colin is now deceased, and was the son of James William Welch and Irene Margherita Paton. Florence’s great-grandfather James was the son of James Welch and Sarah Dandy. Irene was the daughter of Frederick Paton and Ada Sarah Kinipple.

Florence’s paternal grandmother was Sybil Russell. Sybil was a Scottish singer, from Hillhead, Glasgow.

John, Jr. was the son of John Stockwell Samuels, Sr. and Emma Samuels Weedon. Helen was the daughter of Thomas Andrew Poole, whose own parents were English, and of Emma Caroline Hayes.

Florence’s great-grandfather John was the son of a Belarusian Jewish emigrant, Herman Grejcer (later Richards), of Rechki, Vileyka, and of Effie C. Ainlay, who was of half English and half Irish descent.

Anthony’s middle name is John, and he was from Ricieliai, Alytus. His birth name was Antanas Jonas Subačius, but he was later Anglicized into Anthony John Subatch when he arrived in the United States. Florence’s great-great-grandmother’s middle name is Cecelia, and her parents were John Maney and Ellen Riley.

Remark: Take note that Florence is more than 1/4 Scottish because Evelyn is also of part Scottish descent. Also, Florence is also of Scots-Irish/Northern Irish, as well as distant French, Powhatan Native American, and Welsh descent.
