Eos Chater is a Welsh violinist. She is one of the members of the British-Australian string quartet Bond, along with Elspeth Hanson.

She is the daughter of Iau (Provis) and Clive A. Counsell. She is married to producer Jerry Chater.

Eos’ patrilineal ancestry can be traced back to her fourth great-grandfather, Robert Counsell (c. 1765 – 17 November 1832, Wells, Somerset), who was the illegitimate son of Mary Counsell (16 February 1740, Weare, Somerset – ?).

Eos’ paternal grandfather was William Raymond Counsell (the son of Joseph Counsell and Laura Ann Hall). Joseph was the son of Joseph Counsell, who was English, and of Charlotte Jones. Laura was the daughter of Daniel Hall, who was English, and of Mary Jane Griffiths.

Eos’ paternal grandmother was Muriel Ismay Smith (the daughter of Charles Arthur Smith and Beatrice A. Dorothy McDonald). Charles was the son of James Smith and Elizabeth, who were both English. The last name “McDonald” is of Scottish origin. However, it is unclear if this ancestry has been documented/verified.
