Most Spaniards don’t have a ‘stereotypical Mediterranean appearance’, thats the Italians. Spaniards are very western/basque-like.
That is what most prominent anthropologists say: Spain as the cradle of “Mediterranen race”. Spain as a whole has more Mediterranean types than Italy by far. Consider Spain’s latitude and climate that is way hotter than Italy, where most people live in the North, and have more Central European influence. On the other hand Basques are the lightest of all Iberians.

“Atlanto-Med”, ok since you seem to be expert in anthropology you will know that “Mediterranean race” is also called “Ibero-Insular” because it’s very common in Iberia and Med islands like Sardinia. There are surely lighter types in Iberia, expecially Basque Country, Aragón and Catalunya but the vast majority of Iberians are Mediterraneans and very Southern European looking, far from this “Celtic” myth you guys made popular in internet forums.
Iberians are lighter than Italians, deal with it. The only Italians similar to Iberians are the Northern ones. Southern Italians are genetically equidistant between Iberians/North Italians and Lebanese/Levantines and are similar to Jews and Aegean Islanders.

In real life Iberians, Southern Italians and Greeks have similar pigmentation and North Italians don’t look like Iberians at all, it’s just common sense.
