Edward Everett Horton was an American actor. He appeared in film, theatre, radio, television, and voice-over for animation. His roles included the films Alice in Wonderland (1933), Biography of a Bachelor Girl, Top Hat, Lost Horizon (1937), Arsenic and Old Lace, Pocketful of Miracles, and It’s a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World. He was also known as E. E. Horton, Edward Horton, and Edward E. Horton.

Edward was the son of Isabella Steven/Stephen and Edward Everett Horton, a compositor for The New York Times. His mother was born on Matanzas, Cuba, to Scottish parents.

Edward’s paternal grandfather was Henry Peter Horton (the son of James Henry Horton and Elizabeth Dieffenderffer/Dieffenderfer/Diffenderffer). Henry was born in Maryland. James was the son of James B. Horton and Alice Munro/Monroe. Elizabeth was of German descent, and was the daughter of Peter Diffenderffer and Catharina Myers.

Edward’s paternal grandmother was named Rachael/Rachel Ann Woolff/Wolff. Rachael was born in Maryland.
