Firstly lets define what Ethnicity means.
An ethnic group (or ethnicity) is a group of people whose members identify with each other, through a common heritage, often consisting of a common language, a common culture (often including a shared religion) and/or an ideology that stresses common ancestry.
I am Italian from the Island of Sardegna, in Euroe I am Mediterranean White because we are from the Mediterranean. Our Heritage is mixed since many different countries step food in our Island, Germans, Spaniards, Arabs, Greeks, Phoenicians etc etc.
As a race we are mixed race, but as an Ethnic group (Ethnicity) we are Italians.

Paul D is American. His great grandpa may be Italian but that was generations a go, he thinks like a Jersey guy, dress like one, talks like one and has non common heritage or Ethnicity with us, Italians. He does not speak our language, understand our culture, participate of our culture and is not involved in nothing related to us, Italians.
You are Italian if you are born in Italy or if you are at some degree Ethnically affiliated to Italy. At list speak Italian for crying out loud!
In Argentina they are 45 million Italians, In Brazil they are 55 Million Italians. In north American they are only 17 million (mixed).
Most Italian-Argentine speak Italian, Most Brazilian-Italian speak Italian, most of them share a common culture, such as, the passion for Soccer, Cuisine, heritage, language and even the way they look since mostly they intermarriage between each-other. Obviously Italian language is Romance language same as French, Spanish and Portuguese. Not English which is Anglo-Germanic language.

So from that point of view anyone that is born in the USA and is raced up here is American and have Ethnicity in common, such as passion for football, baseball, basketball and with its own unique social and cultural characteristics such as dialect, music, arts, social habits, cuisine, and folklore. An American will understand another American because shares the same Ethnicity.

Paul D is an American in Italy he will be lost, with a language barrier, cultural barrier and always analyzing situations as an American, because he proudly is one.
How do we see Americans in Europe? as Americans, it does not matter that your ancestor came from England, Germany, Poland or Ireland, you are an American and have nothing in common with Europeans. Americans created their own Ethnicity and should be proud of it because is fucking great!..

So stop with this bullshit non sense if he is white or he is not because he is American and yes, if you look at him he looks Mediterranean, but is not what you look like what matters is what is inside your brains that matters. You want to be proud of your European heritage, than learn fuckin Italian, Gaelic, Spanish or whatever your heritage is and be part of the Ethinicity you are. I just will be happy to be an American and drop the bullshit of: oh you look like, no i look like, or you are to dark, o not you are pale, or whatever they feed you in the media this days, wanna learn about Ethnicity, than stop watching TV and pick up books about other countries!
