David Foster is a Canadian musician, record producer, composer, songwriter, and arranger.

He is the son of Eleanor May (Vantreight) and Maurice Perry “Morry” Foster. David is married to American actress, singer, and songwriter Katharine McPhee. He has six children, including one with his former wife, singer and writer B.J. Cook; three with his former wife Rebecca Dyer; and one with Katharine.

David’s paternal grandfather was Walter Milligan Foster (the son of James Rennie Foster and Emma Gladhill). Walter was an English emigrant, who was born in Bradford, West Yorkshire. James was the son of Thomas Foster and Mary Thomson/Thompson, who was Scottish. Emma was the daughter of Richard Gladhill and Sarah Couldwell.

David’s paternal grandmother was Alice Amelia Callard (the daughter of James Callard and Sarah Ann Abrahams). Alice was an English emigrant, who was born in Greenwich, London. James was the son of Edward Thomas Callard and Elizabeth Ellen Moysey. Sarah was the daughter of Richard Abrahams and Sarah Grant.

David’s maternal grandfather was Sidney Edwin Vantreight (the son of John Vantreight and Florence Ellen Sweny). Sidney was born in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada, to Irish emigrants, from Dublin. John was the son of George Vantreight and Arabella Leyns. Florence was the daughter of Thomas Sweny and Ellen Atkin.

David’s maternal grandmother was Jean Stalker McEachran (the daughter of Archibald Bowie McEachran and Jean Stalker). David’s grandmother Jean was a Scottish emigrant, from Glasgow.
