David Boreanaz is an American actor, television producer, and director. He is known for starring as the vampire Angel on the television shows Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel.

His father is television broadcaster Dave Roberts, originally David Thomas Boreanaz. David is married to actress and model Jaime Bergman, with whom he has two children.

David’s father is of Italian descent, with roots in Torreano, Province of Udine, Friuli Venezia-Giulia, and Valledolmo in Sicily. The surname Boreanaz, Borjanac or Berginc in Slovenian, originates in the Friuli Venezia-Giulia region, from the place name Borjana, and likely indicates at least distant Slovenian ancestry. David’s maternal grandfather was of Irish, German, French, and Swiss ancestry. David’s maternal grandmother was of Slovak descent.

David’s paternal grandfather was named Henry H. Boreanaz (the son of Giuseppe/Joseph Boreanaz, and of Philiphina/Philipena/Philippina/Filipina Minnie, whose maiden name likely was Panebianco). David’s grandfather Henry was born in New York, to Italian parents. Giuseppe was born in Torreano, the son of Andrea Boreanaz, who was born in Masarolis, and of Marianna Zamparutto/Zamparutti.

David’s paternal grandmother was Mildred Piteo/Peteo (the daughter of Pasquale Piteo and Filomena “Marnie” Scioli). Mildred was born in New York. Pasquale was born in Campania, Naples, Italy, and his mother’s name was Anna. Marnie was born in New York, to Italian parents.

David’s maternal grandfather is Kenneth B. Moore (the son of Frank Levi Moore and Agnes Lovey McKinney). Kenneth was born in Pennsylvania. Frank was the son of George B. Moore and Laura J. Kissinger. Agnes was the daughter of Leonard Millard Fillmore McKinney and Catherine Agnes Swam.

David’s maternal grandmother is Christina/Christine Skrha (the daughter of Paul Skrha and Anna Yurcik). Christina was born in New York, to Slovak parents, with roots in Sobotište.

Yes, he IS very good-looking. I always assumed he was Jewish (David AND Boreanaz?), but perhaps I’m wrong. Well, whatever his religion or cultural identity is, he’s still a nice-looking guy…

Hey Ethnic =), the lastame Boreanaz comes from the Slovenian lastname Borjanac which means “from the city of Borjana” which is a Slovenian city near the Italian border. The Boreanaz last name is very rare in Italy and it is manly in Friuli, an area near the Slovenian border. I know this cuz I m Italian and I ve just looked up on an Italian site this lastname. So actually he is a Slovenian-Italian. :)

One thing is the place of origin of a person and another thing is the origin of the surname. That’s why Michele Bachelet is from Chile but her surname is French. Boreanaz is clearly a jewish or at least semitic surname. In the middle ages there was a Spanish nobleman who held the title of Count of Torreanaz (from Torre (tower) and Anaz, a locality in Cantabria, Spain). The Old Testament mentions many Anas, and -naz is a root for many hebraic and later arabic words. I think it is jewish surname, though David may perfectly have Italian origin.

Well the “az” part is true. My father always told me all of the Spanish surnames ending in ‘ez” were of jewish descent i.e. Gonzalez, Morales, Hernandez, im guessing of course, sephardic jews, because my father is of sephardic Jewish descent… David clearly has a slavic look. Tall, big boned, broad shouldered, medium nose, high cheek bones. At first I thought he was native american for some reason? But then I googled his last name and found it was a romanticized version of a slavic name. IRONICALLY I know that Italian names are ALWAYS slavicized in the Czech and Slovak lands. So in this case its Bass-ackwards and Boreanaz is an Italianized version of a slavic surname, Go figure! However, I see he is from pennsylvania and that was the main hub for the Slovaks and Czechs, which I see he is also a part Slovak. I am also slovak, and his other name without vowels sounds slovak to me…they are the west slavic names that end in “ke” and “ka” that occur in Czech and Slovak….
