Dakota Fanning is an American actress and model. She is the older sister of actress Elle Fanning (Mary Elle Fanning).

Dakota is the daughter of Heather Joy (Arrington) and Steven J. Fanning. Her father played minor league baseball and her mother played tennis professionally. Dakota’s father is of approximately one half German and one quarter Irish descent, with his other ancestry being English, French, and Channel Islander (Jersey and Guernsey). Dakota’s mother’s family has lived in the United States for many generations, and Dakota’s mother is of mainly English ancestry.

Her aunt (mother’s sister) is ESPN reporter Jill Arrington.

Dakota’s paternal grandfather was William E. “Bill” Fanning (the son of George Joseph Fanning and Dorcas Florence Godden). William was born in New York. George was born in New York, to Irish parents, Edward William Fanning and Catharine Connelly, who was from Donegal. Dorcas was born in the Bronx, New York, the daughter of George Henry Godden, who was born in St. Helier, on the island of Jersey, U.K. Channel Islands, and of Dorcas Caroline Thoumine, who was born in Saint Peter Port, on the island of Guernsey, Channel Islands. Dakota’s great-grandmother Dorcas also had English and French ancestry.

Dakota’s paternal grandmother was Katharina Kramb (the daughter of Jacob Kramb/Kraab and Marie Bauer). Katharine was German, born in Ludwigshaven, Germany, c. 1937. She moved to the United States in the 1950s or in the 1960s.

Dakota’s maternal grandfather is Richard Cameron “Rick” Arrington (the son of Richard Adler Arrington, Jr. and Hazel Cameron). I’ve noticed a mistake with regards to Dakota’s’s ancestry from Guernsey.
As having Guernsey ancestry also, I know that Guernsey isn’t part of the UK (like it is said above). It should be listed here as Dakota having ‘Channel Islander’ ancestry included amongst the rest of her background.
It would be great if it was changed.

Thank you for reading!

she was hot on the cosmopolitan cover, but no Russian or Jewish or southern European or Cajun or at least some native American? That’s so boring for a white person

I bet she is 2.3% black since science says 60% or more of white Americans have an estimate of 2.3% black blood

She’s probably another Heather Locklear

She has similar colouring to other actresses that are German and Irish descent e.g. Grace Kelly & Amanda Siegfried. I guess in the US being German/Irish isn’t exotic but that’s because a lot of the original Americans are of these ethnicities. Go to someplace like Russia, Asia or Africa and her background would be very exotic. In the populations of the world German/Irish background is exotic and blue eyed blondes are extremely rare.

Just to clarify the above. The Native Americans are of course the original but alot of Americans of European descent are of German and/or Irish descent.

Seyfried not Siegfried.

And what hillbilly backwater swamp are you from? If you bothered to do any research, you’d find that only 4% of white Americans have 1% or more of African blood. “Science” in general, is not a viable source…

There is no shame in being whatever race you are, and being white doesn’t necesarily mean you’re a bad person or that you’re boring. It doesn’t even necesarily mean your a racist. Thats a stereotype in itself. Its rude to suggest someone is boring or ‘plain old white’ which is offensive anyway you look at it-and if you feel big and powerful for singling someone out on thier nationality, in doing so, it makes you no different than a racist, wether or not you declare yourself one.

Dakota Fanning is a talented young woman who is proud of her heritage, and should be, just like anyone else that inhabits this unique earth and all its people with different looks and ways.

Just for the record; you can be whatever race you are and embrace yourself for being any nationality that is in your blood because it is part of you. You can be mixed and embrace every single part of whichever shares your blood. Whats wrong with that?

Enough with the negativity and move on with your life. Embrace this life and enjoy all its uniqueness.

thanks jessie for the comment. those sources arent very reliable. In an interview she was quoted saying that she has Irish and German heritage. Imdb isnt too reliable either.

jessie October 31, 2009 at 3:17 pm

On numerous websites, she also has Scandinavian ancestry (though no one confirms which Scandinavian country).

Someone also mentioned it on her imdb.com trvia.
