There have been DNA done in southern Europe that show african admixture who cares that doesn’t take way from being European. Everyone in the world and the Northern Europeans know souther European are mixed it is your history get over it. Like we blacks from the Amricas know majority of us are mixed. Plus the moors are black go to museums in Europe and see for your selfs that will show arts of the moors. Portuguese are well known for having sex with black women look at where ever there landed :) there descents are mixed.
With the Irish having dark skin everyone knows where that came from read deep into your history. I have meant so many Irish that fit the black and white mixed it is not funny my boyfriends step father looks like our son lol. Anyways the Romans came to conquered the british and the areads surrounding them. Guess who the Romans told to come and conquered those people allot of those people where BLACK Roman army men. Because at that time the Romans did not care about race but believe those people the british,Irish ect were uncivilized and there tried making them civilized. I am trying to say blacks were all over in Europe because on colonization places like Germany,France, Beligum,Spain, Portugual, Italy,Greece,Turkey blacks were everywhere in some place in smaller numbers and other places in big number you cannot change anything of the pass but move forward.

Can you back anything you say up with some evidence like genetic studies. Links would be appreciated. All those places you have mentioned have had quite a bit of genetic testing done. The Romans never got to Ireland by the way. They called it Hibernia because they thought it was so cold and wintry. They also didn’t go to Scotland and built Hadrian’s Wall to keep the Picts out. People make all sorts of claims on this site that can be easily refuted.

Yes, it’s true – she was from Cabo Verde but she was an ethnic Portuguese: meaning, Western European.

Ronaldo is slightly different looking because he is from Madeira and they descend from Southern Iberian peninsula (including Spain). If you look at most Portuguese in North America you will see they tend to come from Minho/Porto, the northern regions and the Azores. Azoreans tend to look closer to Southern Portuguese as well, but are whiter on average than Madeirans.

People from Madeira were mostly farmers from Minho (North of Portugal). If Madeirans seem dark to you than it’s because they are more tanned. Hint: Madeira is in the same latitude as Marocco.

I go to school with a few Portuguese kids. They are just as dark as Ronaldo; some of them are darker. Ronaldo’s coach, Jose Mourinho, is just as dark as him as well.

Portuguese are not decended from spain! Portugal is much older than Spain, in fact, it’s one of the oldest countries (if not THE oldest) in Europe! Once Portugal was conquered by Spain, but it didn’t last long and we already had a history of centuries as an independant country before that.

You’re right, Portugal did not descend from Spain. But the truth is, Portugal is a country due to family squabbles, meaning money. Up until 1000 years ago, people flowed freely between the Iberian borders without issue.
So you’re right, Portugal did become independent first. But we’re the same people as Spain with slight variation.

I have been reading a lot of these reviews of celebs and what makes me laugh is that anytime a European person doesn’t fit the “stereotype” of what a European person looks like everyone comes along and says they must be mixed! I’m Irish and even within Ireland we have so many different types of “looks”. My best friend has snow white skin, pale blue eyes and blonde hair. Another good friend has jet black hair, almond shaped deep brown eyes and tanned skin. I have dark brown hair, medium fair skin and very green eyes. I have really high cheek bones and unusually shaped eyes – if I posted a photo up here and said I was part Native American everyone would believe it. My Grandfather had brown hair and blue eyes yet his facial structure was indentical to an Apache or Comanche. My maternal Grandmother had jet black frizzy hair, sallow skin and almond shaped brown eyes. People looking at photos of her when she was young always comment on how “Jewish” she looked. Yet, all the people I have described are “100%” Irish. There is so much variation within individual ethnicities. And anyway, ultimately we all came from one lovely black African lady … she is the Mother of us all :-) If I could meet her I would give her a big hug and thank her for making such a beautiful and varied global family. We are all more similar than we are different and we should embrace these similarities.

I think most people who regularly use this site know that each ethnicity is more varied than most people think. For example, If you look at Fuzzybear’s and Drexxx’s comments they always show examples of varied African people. If you look at comments about Italian people youll see that a lot of people on here argue that Italians are very varied in appearance. I often comment on the diversity of Japanese people, who most people think are homogeneous.
I think this site demonstrates the diversity of ethnicities rather than encourage stereotypes of what an ethnicity is supposed to look like.

The most common misconception people have about Portuguese or Spaniards is that they’re not white. My mom is Portuguese born, believe me: she’s as pale as they come. Truth is: English, Irish, Welsh or Scottish are not nordic. They have Northern European blood, yes. And their skin tends to be whiter than a Spaniard, but that’s due to a few thousand years of being in the wet cold. Truth is, their hair colour doesn’t lie, neither do their features. You can never confuse an Englishman with someone from Finland or Sweden. Sorry, that’s just the truth. Mel Gibson who is of Scottish descent looks like my cousin Jorge from Portugal. I am Irish on my dad’s side and Portuguese on my moms.
