She was the daughter of Jeanne Eugénie (Devolle), a laundrywoman, and Henri Albert Chanel, a street vendor, of work clothes and undergarments.

Coco’s paternal grandfather was Henri Adrien Paulin Chanel (the son of Joseph Hippolyte Chanel and Marie Madeleine Thomas). Henri was born in Ponteil-et-Brésis, Gard. Joseph was the son of Antoine Chanel and Anne Nicolas.

Coco’s paternal grandmother was Émilie Virginie Angélina/Angéline Fournier (the daughter of Henri Fournier and Christine Ginoux). Virginie was born in Saint-Jean-de-Valériscle, Gard, Languedoc-Roussillon.

Coco’s maternal grandfather was François Devolle (the son of Georges/George Devolle and Jeanne Cousin). François was born in Tours sur Meymont, Puy-de-Dôme. Georges was the son of François Devolle and Benoîte Badeaud. Jeanne was the daughter of Michel Cousin and Michelle Catherine Darteyre.
