Carlo Azeglio Ciampi was an Italian politician and banker. He served as the 49th Prime Minister of Italy, from 28 April, 1993 to 10 May, 1994, and the tenth President of Italy, from 18 May, 1999 to 15 May, 2006, among many other duties.

He was the son of Pietro Ciampi and Maria Masino. His father was from Livorno, Tuscany. His mother was born in Pisa, Tuscany, to a Piedmontese family from Cuneo. He was married to Franca Pilla, until his death, with whom he had two children.

Carlo Azeglio’s paternal grandfather was named Azeglio Ciampi.

Carlo Azeglio’s maternal grandparents were named Giuseppe Masino and Teresa Grossi.
