Carl Yastrzemski is an American Major League Baseball player. He is in the Baseball Hall of Fame. He is nicknamed “Yaz.”

Carl is the son of Hedwig Teresa “Hattie” (Skonieczny) and Carl/Karol Vincent Yastrzemski. His father was born in New York, to Polish parents. His mother was born in New Jersey, also to Polish parents. He was raised bilingual, speaking Polish.

Carl has three children, including late professional baseball player Mike Yastrzemski, with his former wife Carol Ann. His grandson, Mike Yastrzemski, is also a professional baseball player, and is Mike’s son.

Carl’s paternal grandfather was Chester Jastrzebski/Yastrzemski (the son of Michał Jastrzębski and Teofila Suchcicka).
