Cap Anson was an American professional baseball player and manager. He played as a first baseman in Major League Baseball (MLB), and was with the Rockford Forest Citys, the Philadelphia Athletics, and the Chicago White Stockings/Colts. He managed the Philadelphia Athletics, the Chicago White Stockings/Colts, and the New York Giants. He was nicknamed “Cap” and “Pop.”

Cap was the son of Jennette (Rice) and Henry Anson. He was married to Virginia Fiegal, until her death, with whom he had seven children.

Cap’s paternal grandfather was named Warren Anson (the son of Jonathan Anson). Jonathan was the son of Silas Anson/Austin.
