Boris Yeltsin was a Russian politician. He was the first President of the Russian Federation, serving from 10 July, 1991 to 31 December, 1999. He was previously the First Secretary of the Moscow City Committee of the Communist Party, from 23 December, 1985 to 11 November, 1987, Chairman of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the Russian SFSR, from 29 May, 1990 to 10 July, 1991, and Head of Government of Russia, from 6 November, 1991 to 15 June, 1992.

Boris was the son of Klavdiya/Klaudia Vasilyevna (maiden surname unknown) Yeltsina and Nikolai Ignatevich Yeltsin. He was married to Naina Iosifovna Girina, with whom he had two children.

Boris’s paternal grandfather was Ignat Yekimovich Yeltsin (the son of Yekim Savich Yeltsin and Catherine Yemelyanova). Ignat was born in Basmanovo, Temkinskiy rayon, Smolenskaya oblast’, Russia. Boris’s great-grandmother Yekim was the son of Savva Ivanov Yeltsin.

Boris’s paternal grandmother was named Anna Dmitriyevna. Anna was born in Basmanovo.

Some sources state that Boris’s grandmother was Mansi. It is not clear if this Mansi ancestry has been verified/documented.
