Billy Hughes was an Australian politician. He served as Prime Minister of Australia, from 27 October, 1915 to 9 February, 1923. He was also Leader of the Labor Party, from 27 October, 1915 to 14 November, 1916, Leader of the National Labor Party, from 14 November, 1916 to 17 February, 1917, Leader of the Nationalist Party, from 17 February, 1917 to 9 February, 1923, Leader of the Australian Party, from 1930 to 1931, and Leader of the United Australia Party, from 29 August, 1941 to 23 September, 1943, among other duties.

Prime Minister Hughes was the son of Jane (Morris) and William Hughes, a carpenter. He was born in London, England, to Welsh parents. He moved to Australia in 1884.

Prime Minister Hughes’ paternal grandfather was William Hughes.

Prime Minister Hughes’ maternal grandfather was Peter Morris (the son of Peter Morris and Anne Jones). Prime Minister Hughes’ great-grandfather Peter was the son of Roger Morris and Margaret.
