Bill Hicks was an American stand-up comedian, social critic, satirist, and musician. His albums include “Dangerous,” “Relentless,” “Arizona Bay,” “Rant in E-Minor,” and “Love, Laughter and Truth.”

He was the son of Mary and James Melvin Hicks. He was partly raised in Alabama, Florida, and New Jersey, then settling in Houston, Texas. His family was Baptist.

Bill’s paternal grandfather was Millard Fillmore/Filmore Hicks (the son of James A. Hicks and Buna Vesta Stokes). Millard was born in Alabama. James was the son of Jackson Hicks and Elizebeth.

Bill’s paternal grandmother was Jewell Stein/K. Thomasson (the daughter of Erastus Melvin Thomasson and Lillie Rebecca Mancil/Mancill). Jewell was born in Alabama. Erastus was the son of Cornelious Starr Thomasson and Susannah “Susie” Henley. Lillie was the daughter of Henry Mancill/Mancil and Mary Louise “Polly” Parker.

Bill’s maternal grandfather was James Oddisray/Otis/Ottis Reese (the son of James/Jimmie Jasper Reese and Permelia Welch). Otis was born in Louisiana. Permelia was the daughter of Nick Welch.

Bill’s maternal grandmother was Jewette Marie Mulkey (the daughter of Dewitte Clinton Mulkey and Minnie Ann Rice). Jewette was born in Mississippi.
