Bernard Tomic is an Australian professional tennis player. He was born in Stuttgart, Germany, to a Croatian father, Ivica, and a Bosniak mother, Adisa. They left Socialist Yugoslavia several years before he was born. Later, in 1996, they moved to Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia, and Bernard was raised there.
After a feud with Australian Open Tournament Director Craig Tiley in 2010, Bernard’s father threatened to have Bernard represent Croatia rather than Australia.
Bernard’s maternal grandfather is Osman Vatić.
