If the schools made African American history a requirement in the schools people wouldn’t have to waste their time trying to figure out why our skin colors, hair textures and eye colors vary. Black people come in all shades from the lightest of the light to the darkest of the dark. My dad is very dark with wavy hair. His grandfather is an olive complexioned Italian. The genes can go either way. Ashanti’s grandfather (James Davis) may he rest in peace was a light-skinned African American. And her father (Kinkaid-I hope I spelled his name right) is also light-skinned. If you study black history in America, there are a lot of black people that were so fair skinned they passed for white, change their identities, and moved away from their families so they can have an opportunity to live a better life by getting hired for jobs not offered to blacks or to the slaves it meant a chance at freedom. There are quite a few books that were written by different authors about “passing” especially during slavery and the time of the Jim Crow Laws. There are also books about mulatos, octoroons and quadroons. Google it. You may find a good book. This is why President Obama encourages young people to focus on getting a good education. In general people have been mixing since the beginning of creation.

whatever she said, you have to respect that….maybe she would like to keep some things about herself private. Whatever her lineage, that’s her business to disclose as she pleases. Anyone can go and research her family tree, but why bother? She can be part aboriginal Australian for all i care, i choose to take her word for it.
