No offence, but, when I first seen her, I never would’ve guessed she’s African American. This shows that you cannot determine one’s race, by appearance.

Um…am I the only focused on the make up? It looks..pale…Idk. But yeah, there’s nothing wrong with aa claiming only black. What I don’t understand is why its such a big deal and effect on ppl who aren’t…so what if we don’t get in detail of our complete heritage. The fact of the matter is mass majority of AA has some kind of mixture. Seeing how most of it got in our bloodline, some choice not to, or don’t know about it. The idiots that keep trying to deny that we come in differnt shades sounds really ignorant. Obviously, we are one of the biggest varity of shades and features. It kills me now that we become a better society or sucessful, us wanting to just be labled as black has to be a big deal…this topic is none sense. Get over it. We are allowed to take pride in our culture/heritage.

Not to sound dumb. But I think most of african americans today have some sort of european ancestry, even if they know it or not. I’m african american and I believe thats where my green eyes came from. plus i’m too light to be ‘just black’. dont get it twisted. I’m proud to be black but I def think thats whats up.
Hot debate. What do you think?

As an AA and a very light skinned one, I can understand why she just says black. Its less complicated and for me its more about what my culture is. Its not African, but instead is African American, which by my understanding and many others are differant and seperate from all other types of black ppl becuase we are in large part a mixture of lots of things. For me it really is not offensive to be Just AA, even though one might look at me and assume I am mixed.

there’s no way in hell this woman is just black…I bet she’s even less than 50% black..and dont give me any of this bull about “blacks come in all shadeds” because the fact is the blacks that were taken to america were west african hence darker complected…this woman looks lighter than a 50/50 black/white person..DNA tests would confirm I’m right

Liam,
Mmmmmh! I get so irritated when people use complexion alone to determine ones background! I am considered to be light skin and my siblings are mocha in complexion. We have the same mother and father! This is why I always explain to some African-Americans as well as other Americans who have so much input about black people in this country. Why in the hell are we acting so stupid about all these complexions when the truth of the matter is that African-Americans are not 100 percent African!!!!!! Then you read stupid comment after comment of folks pointing out this feature and that feature and this complexion and that complexion. All I can say is damn people we know African-American are a multi-ethnic group of people just like any other race in America! So please people stop with this nonsense about who looks mixed and who doesn’t damn all of you are mixed (African-Americans)! Go read a book this is no secret!!!! Wow now I see how historically how people told lies and the lies were infused into society as truth and people were so racist that they were determined not to tell the truth even though they knew the truth!!! Saying that African-Americans are not multi-ethnic group is like saying black people only slept with other black people. Hell we all know that’s a damn lie!!! Oooh! I just can’t take it! Listen to how ignorant society sounds! Oh and by the way you can be dark complexion and still be mixed so stop the nonsense!!!! Look within your own families particularly African Americans you can have the same parents and some siblings can be very dark and another sibling could be very fair! I know this because this is within my own family! So this is why you can’t say they must be mixed because of the complexion! Yes people a darker skin person can be mixed as well!Geez!!!

@Liam Just because she is “light skinned” does mean she isn’t completely African American. I have a aunt thats lighter than her and both my grandmother and grandfather was medium/dark brown. African-American refers to ALL shades of black. I agree with Jase ..GET SOME BLACK FRIENDS..or read a book!
