Andre Ward is an American professional boxer. He won the light heavyweight gold medal at the 2004 Olympics. He was ranked the world’s best active boxer, pound for pound, by The Ring magazine and the Transnational Boxing Rankings Board (TBRB). He retired with an undefeated record, and has held multiple world championships in two weight classes, including unified super middleweight titles and unified light heavyweight titles. He was nicknamed “S.O.G.”/”Son of God.”

His mother, Madeline (Green), is African-American. His father, Frank Ward, was of Irish descent. A picture of Andre with his father can be seen here. His father inspired him by telling him stories of hard fought battles and triumphant victories. Given the choice to fight or pursue other sports, he chose boxing.

Andre is married to Tiffiney, with whom he has five children. Andre is a devout Christian.

    I have never seen a mixed person who looks like this. I bet most people growing up didn’t believe he is part white. Some people doubt a little about me when I’m lighter than him and mixed with 3 races…

      He is too white to be black and too black to be white. He is both Irish American and African American and the better for both. What a fantastic fighter. His reputation is a slow burner and as time goes by he will become more and more revered.
