Here is another quote from the above article “A few genes have previously been associated with human pigment disorders — most notably those that, when mutated, lead to albinism, an extreme form of pigment loss. But the newly found glitch is the first found to play a role in the formation of “normal” white skin. The Penn State team calculates that the gene, known as slc24a5, is responsible for about one-third of the pigment loss that made black skin white. A few other as-yet-unidentified mutated genes apparently account for the rest. “

This article is about how scientists have found the dna accounting for white skin. Here is a direct quote from the article “The work also reveals for the first time that Asians owe their relatively light skin to different mutations. That means that light skin arose independently at least twice in human evolution, in each case affecting populations with the facial and other traits that today are commonly regarded as the hallmarks of Caucasian and Asian races.” These mutations have advantageous in the climates they occurred they are not defects like albinism.

Well, I think she is a beautiful women and she may very well be black due to the African descent and if that is the case then GREAT for her. If not, GREAT for her. She looks amazing whether she is white, black, hispanic or whatever. It is ultimately up to her to clear up if she claims her african ancestory or if it just doesnt exist.

People from Cape Verde can be very fair skinned to begin with, so mixing that DNA w/ Caucasian DNA is most likely (but not always) going to produce a light complected person. She’s is very beautiful.

Why does these debates matter?

I can only guess at my ancestry, but I look white because I inherited the “ginger” gene, but my little sister has dark skin, and looks more multiracial.

It amazes me…the ignorance of other commenters…

She very well may be more white than black. However, you cannot see a person’s complete genetic makeup by looking at them. If so, we wouldn’t need DNA testing. The saying “the darker the flesh, the deeper the roots” is not necessarily true. Genetics are complex, based on probability, but also random. Some people who are about the same color have been proven to be predominately black (sub-saharan) through DNA admixture tests.

If anyone has red hair or blue eyes they have ancestry from Europeans on both sides. Red hair reaches a peak in Scotland and Ireland, people with this trait usually have a high risk of cancer and are unable to tan. It is a very recessive trait and the reason it is more common in these countries is due to very cloudy skies and isolation. Blue eyes are also due to de-pigmentation. These traits did not occur in Africans where they would definitely cause serious problems for survival before the age of housing. This is a link on blue eyes stating that everyone with blue eyes is a descendent of one person who passed the mutation on. It occurred west of the Black Sea area (Romania) around 10,000 – 6,000 years ago.
http://www.thegeneticgenealogist.com/2008/02/06/the-family-tree-of-blue-eyed-individuals/. The majority of the world’s population have dark brown hair and brown eyes. Before these mutations occurred everyone on Earth had dark brown eyes and black hair.

This quote is from the above article “all red heads are MC1R variants that derive from European populations; the prevalence of these alleles is highest in Celtic countries”.

ever seen an african albino? some have blue eyes and blonde hair and some have red hair and hazel eyes. “Before these mutations occurred everyone on Earth had dark brown eyes and black hair.” yeah, mutations like albinism, which is very common in africa. http://www.thetech.org/genetics/ask.php?id=67

[Except when people are of mixed ancestry, red hair in Africans is usually caused by a kind of albinism. When people think of albinos, they tend to think of white hair, pale skin and red eyes. While this is true for Caucasians, albinism works differently in people of African descent.

There are a few different kinds of albinism in people of African descent, but the one that gives red hair is called rufous albinism. People with this condition have a red-bronze skin color, ginger-red hair, and blue or brown eyes. ]

It is not albinism in Europeans. African albinos still don’t have the mutations that caused blue eyes and lighter colouring that occurred in Europeans. They are still genetically African. All races have people with albinism. It is a congenital defect with quite a few other abnormalities occurring as well especially problems with the eyes like nystagmus, myopia,

Amblyopia. Europeans with lighter colouring are not suffering from albinism. Europeans still can make pigment as they can tan. Albinism is a congenital disorder that can occur in all races. Many forms of albinism are associated with the following symptoms: Crossed eyes (strabismus), Light sensitivity (photophobia), Rapid eye movements (nystagmus) Vision problems, or functional blindness.
