Her roles include the shows Phil of the Future, Hellcats, and iZombie, the films Bandslam, Easy A, The Roommate, Grown Ups 2, Sequoia, Weepah Way for Now, and The Lears, and the made-for-tv movie Sand Dollar Cove.

She is the daughter of Carrie and Mark Michalka. Her mother, also a musician, performed with the Christian band JC Band.

Aly is married to independent film producer Stephen Ringer. She is a devout Christian.

Aly’s paternal grandfather was James I. Michalka (the son of Gustave/Gustav August Michalka and Edna Caroline Loll). James was born in Michigan. Gustave was born in Michigan, to German parents, Frank August Michalka and Mary Venefky/Venefly. Edna was also born in Michigan, also to German parents, Warner Loll and Henrietta Etta Krahn.

Aly’s paternal grandmother was Betty Anne Martin (the daughter of David Martin and Amelia “Emily” Yurk). Betty was born in Michigan. David and Amelia were both immigrants from what is listed as Russia. It is likely that they were both of ethnic German descent.

  1. Alina says:

It is very common for Ukrainians and Russians to have varying degrees of Tatar blood. Ukraine still has about 350,000 Tatars and Russia has over 5 million. Most Tatars left Ukraine due to Russian oppression in the 19th Century or were driven out by Stalin. Tatars also had significant populations in other Eastern European countries.

If she truly is Ukrainian, that might be the “non-white” referenced above. Or it could be something else. Regardless, Aly does look somewhat Eastern European. AJ must have gotten more of the English and Irish.

To me there’s something almost non-white about her face. Her lips are full and her nose and eyes are kinda different, and her face is very wide even though she’s slim. Either way she’s very pretty : )

  3. Megan says:

She’s also of German ancestory, google “aly michalka ethnicity” and in the 3rd link it says shes german.

      • a says:

Ethnic.. do you have any confirmation she is Ukrainian? wtf you go by surname alone? You do realize Michalka is also a Polish and Slovak surname? Just because wikipedia says it’s Ukrainian doesn’t mean it’s JUST Ukrainian. So unless you have confirmation that she’s SPECIFICALLY Ukrainian don’t post stupidity based on a surname.

        Although she does look Slavic.
