    There’s no such thing as looking German. “German” is a nationality, not a racial group or sub-group. Many other nationalities are genetically similar. He’s predominantly North European. If he was walking down the street you wouldn’t know if he’s Swedish, Danish or who knows what else. Anyways, he’s friggin’ hot!

    • J.J. says:

      I know what you’re saying, “german” is a country in europe which is made up of peoples from different tribes whom also occupied many countries around germany but european countries are considered contemporary ethnicities as tracing bloodlines back to tribes can be near impossible and can go back 1,000 years plus, so most of the population is a mix of virtually every tribe that ever occupied that land. Germans, swedes and danish all carry similar genetics and have similar tribal origins but the countries do vary slightly in looks, saying all nords and germans look the same is not true, even genetically there are differences. Countries like mexico, brazil, argentina, USA, canada, australia, new zealand etc are not ethnicities because they’re new world countries that were colonised by europeans with most of the population being either white (european descent) or mixed race (usually with natives), so saying someone looks “canadian” wouldn’t make sense. I dread the day new world countries become ethnicities.

    • Tyler Durden says:

      There is most certainly a such thing as looking German. This whole “All Europeans are the same” mumbo jumbo is American-centric thinking and largely the reason identity in European countries are slowly being washed away in favor of some pan-ethnic identity similar to that of Americans. White should have stayed in America, it had no place in Europe.

  3. Jess says:

    He looks 100% German most Americans look German. People like Brad Pitt, Paul Walker, Rob Lowe have typical German phenotypes. You will not find these guys anywhere in modern day Britain however you will find them plenty in Germany.

    What I gather is most people have a stupid idea of what Germans look like. To them germans = Arnold Swarzenegger. Sorry people who look like Hugh Feist are more typical of Germans and Hugh Feist has what most would call an “All American look” and he is 100% German and he looks like your typical White American. Only the Australians look dominantly British most Americans do not.

    • Freerk says:

      Schwarzenegger is Australian … :D

      As (statistically) 20 % of the “typical white Americans” are of German descend, it can’t surprise that an American of German descend looks like a typical white American. :-) But Brad Pitt doesn’t look a bit German.

      • J.J. says:

        german is the most common ethnicity in the USA and most Americans (particularly ones of several generations) do have german blood. Brad Pitt’s ancestry is merely assumed to be british isles and german but in my opinion he does look more German than anything, he’s stunning

        • follers says:

          Brad Pitt is of mostly British Isles descent, as you can easily tell from his family tree.

          The most common ethnicity in the U.S. is English, not German (and no links to prove otherwise, they’re just false since people don’t report English as much as they have it).

          Most Americans with ancestry going back in the U.S. 300+ years have some degree of German ancestry, but they typically have more British Isles ancestry. People like George W. Bush and Mitt Romney are a great demonstration of this (although Romney’s German ancestry is more recently immigrant).

          • J.J. says:

            @follers
            you’re merely speculating/assuming that information, factually, german is the number one ethnicity in the USA, irish comes in at second and english as third

          • follers says:

            To say there are more people with German and Irish ancestry in the U.S. than English is comical. To say it’s “factual” is an insult to history and genealogy.

            The 2000 census stated there are 42.8 million Americans of German ancestry (to what degree, I’m not sure). The same survey lists 24.5 million English (I think there are more than 24.5 million Americans of English descent listed on ethnicelebs alone).

            But then it lists an ”additional” 20.2 million people who describe their ancestry as simply “American”. People who say that tend to be of mostly English descent. What else would they be?
            https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Census-2000-Data-Top-US-Ancestries.jpg

            Add to that all the people with partial English ancestry who didn’t report it (for example, those 4.3 million who said they were “Scotch-Irish” have to be at least part English, pretty much without exception, etc.).

          • J.J. says:

            @follers
            Once again, you are speculating YOUR opinion and your opinion alone, there is no evidence or proof to back up what you’re saying, it is not FACT. The fact of the matter is german is the number one ancestry in the USA, irish is second and english is third

          • follers says:

            No, they’re not, and it’s ludicrous to think so. How is it “fact” exactly? Just because someone somewhere printed it? If that was the criteria for establishing a “fact”, a lot of very contradictory things would be a “fact”, about a billion times over.

            It’s lunacy to believe that only 24 million Americans (out of 300 millon) have English ancestry. How is this even remotely possible? I have a difficult time believing that even ”you” believe that number. Are you just messing with me?

            BTW, these “facts” also list “American” as a self-reported ancestry group. So should I assume you now agree that “American” is an ethnicity? Along with “Canadian” and “Australian”, in that case?

            Johnny Depp said that he’s “Irish, German, and Native American”, but has never mentioned English. Brad Pitt, who you mentioned, claimed Scots-Irish, German, Seminole, and Cherokee, ancestry, but not English. Those two examples should perfectly explain those census numbers.

          • J.J. says:

            @follers
            once again, your assumption, i’m not saying what you’re saying doesn’t make sense or that i don’t agree for that matter, i’m just saying it is not a fact, just speculation. One should learn not to let a debate turn into an argument with the grounds of an opinion or an assumption to back him up

          • Check7t says:

            “most Americans look German”

            If you equate Nordic features with “German” then I would honestly say White Americans don’t look very German. Alexander Ludwig looks a lot ‘whiter’ than the average White American. Someone like Ashton Kutcher or Tom Cruise look more like typical white males, brown hair and brown eyes or brown hair and colored eyes.

            Most White Americans don’t have Nordic features, except maybe in these upper midwestern states (Minnesota, Wisconsin, Dakotas, and Montana) as Scandinavian ancestry is common there, however everywhere else the phenotypes vary, with guys like Ashton Kutcher or Tom Cruise looking very typical.

          • Check7t says:

            I also know a lot of people stereotypically associate blonde hair and blue eyes with Germany, but brown is actually more common than blonde. Southern Germans are predominately alpine in phenotype, while the people in Northern Germany tend to be predominately Nordic. However, I’ve seen plenty of Germans on anthropology forums say brown hair is more common than blonde.

          • J.J. says:

            @follers
            It all depends what you class as “brown hair”. Most white people (europeans & european descendants) do possess light brown hair however many could speculate that “light brown hair” is actually a very dark blonde. Personally i’d say brown hair is the most common in europe and most white women merely dye their hair blonde. Natural blonde hair is common in the nordic countries but it still isn’t the majority, however it all comes back to what can pass for blonde, if light brown hair can be passed as blonde then i’d say blonde hair or “blondism” is more common in europe than dark hair

      • Tyler Durden says:

        My two cents

        Yes the English number is most certainly underreported because of the amount of Americans who choose to identify with being “American” as their ethnicity. This is all true, but at the same time that doesn’t make the German number not real and we have no way of knowing these people’s ancestries. I know even non-white American people who consider themselves Americans by ethnicity.

        Furthermore Germans and the Irish intermixed with the British and became indistinquishable from them to the point being German is just as normal and “basic american” as English is. Just like most other northern european groups. The only people who didn’t blend in with the wasp are the Italians and that’s why Italians are the only ones still with their own distinct subculture in the USA while Germans have become completely invisible.

        To address the people arguing over which celebrity looks British or German you guys do realize that you’re arguing about looking a certain way with two groups who literally overlap with each other on genetic maps. This is because Anglos Saxons are originally of German/Danish origin. Of course many English people are going to look like Germans. They ARE germans in part, that’s a historical fact. The English weren’t always in the isles, celtics were the natives.

        I’d say both English and German are the largest ancestries. Both are practically the main ingredients in most White Americans. You see an English American mostly likely German ancestry follows and vice versa same with Irish Americans.

        @ Freerk I think you meant Arnold was Austrian, but Austrians are ethnic Germans so no difference there.

        • Jordan says:

          You were right about many things, but not quite about the English. English people are not pure germanics, they are heavilly mixed with Celts, and overlap with Welsh and Irish as well.

          • crunty says:

            Just look at the haplotype I1 maps of northern europe, before everyone moved around. Even the so-called Celtic areas have a relatively high preponderance of the I1 Germanic haplotype, courtesy of the male lines.
